Are You Being True to Yourself?

Updated: Oct 27, 2025

As a mum, one of the most important things I’ve learned is that being true to yourself takes courage, and that’s something my child, Nat, has taught me in the most beautiful way.

From the time Nat was little, I could see they experienced the world differently. School wasn’t always easy, friendships sometimes felt complicated, and there were moments where I worried about how others would see them. But alongside those challenges I also saw an incredible spark — a creative mind, a kind heart, and a determination to tell stories that truly mattered.

Watching Nat grow into themselves hasn’t just been about cheering them on; it has also been about learning to step back and trust their path, even when it didn’t look like what I imagined at first. That’s not always easy as a parent, is it? We want to protect our kids, but sometimes the best way we can do that is by letting them stand tall in who they are.

The Magbean!™ series was born out of Nat’s lived experiences: the ups and downs, the feeling of being different, and the deep wish for a world that celebrates every kind of brain and every kind of being. Their first book, You Can’t Rush Friendships, is not just a story for children; it is also a reflection of Nat’s own journey of patience, empathy, and discovering connection in their own time.

As I watch children reading Nat’s book with joy, I can’t help but feel proud, not only of what Nat has created, but also of who they are. They are proof that when you lean into your true self, magic has a way of unfolding.

So here’s my gentle nudge to you, from one mum to another (or to anyone who needs to hear it): Are you being true to yourself? And just as importantly, are you making room for your children to be true to themselves as well?

It won’t always look perfect, and it might not always be easy, but I promise you, it is worth it. I’ve seen it with my own eyes.

So, let me ask you again: are you being true to yourself?

Maybe this week, the bravest and kindest thing you can do is simply show up as you are, quirks, colours, and all. ✨

👉 I’d truly love to hear your thoughts.

I’d love to hear from you, how do you remind yourself to stay true when it feels hard? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

If this post resonated with you, please pass it along to a friend who might need the reminder today.

With love and pride
