Awards & Recognitions

Nat’s creative journey has not only inspired young audiences but also caught the attention of educators, community leaders, and national programs. Their passion, talent, and drive to create meaningful, inclusive art have been recognised through a number of awards, grants, and nominations.

Exceptional Young Person Award

ACT Children’s Week 2024, Presented by the Hon. Margaret Reid AO
23 October 2024

Nomination:

"Nat is an extraordinary young individual who has flourished at Daydream Machine, a STEM-learning studio for neurodivergent youth, over the past 2.5 years. Since joining, Nat’s confidence and self-belief have grown tremendously, helping them emerge as an extremely talented digital illustrator with a unique ability to capture people’s personalities by drawing them as their favourite animals.  Their skills have gained recognition, leading to the creation of over a dozen promotional posters for various community events.  Nat is proficient in Affinity Photo and Design, an industry-standard graphic design tool, which they use to craft visually striking designs.

Beyond their technical abilities, Nat has also taken on commissioned art-work for notable organisations such as the United Nations Information Centre, the University of Canberra Inclusion Team and the Office for Disability.  Nat’s leadership qualities shine through in their role as a mentor to younger Daydream Machine participants, who frequently seek their guidance with their graphic design projects.

In December 2022, Nat showcased their impressive portfolio during the Daydream Machine Expo, which caught the attention of several external community agencies.  This led to an exciting opportunity to design a poster for a fund-raising event at Old Parliament House."

Edstart Achievement Awards

Finalist 2022

In 2022, Nat was selected as a finalist in the Edstart Achievement Awards, recognised for their self-taught skills in graphic design and animation. They received a grant to support their work on Mixed Tribe, a graphic novel centred on inclusion, resilience, and self-confidence—core values that continue to shape their creative practice today.

These recognitions reflect Nat’s dedication to using art as a tool for connection, empowerment, and social change—and they mark just the beginning of an inspiring path ahead.
