With the second book for the Magbean!® series now published and ready to be ordered, how about some fun facts about the beans of Beanpie Island!
At the end of You Can’t Rush Friendships, the heads of two silhouettes are seen in the foreground. Guess who they were? Magtaco and Nachobean; the bullies of Beanpie Island, now clear for everyone to see in Kindness Over Rudeness. Now, how about we start with them?
Magtaco and Nachobean, brothers of a feather, as clearly stated in the first page. But which one’s older? Many might assume that they are twins, giving off quite a few stereotypical fictional twin tropes, such as swapped colour palettes, acting exactly like each other, always around one another, and just generally being troublemakers. It may come as a surprise that they are, in fact, not twins. Magtaco is older than Nachobean by a year.
Magtaco and Nachobean, although not stated in Kindness Over Rudeness, are known as the Cornchip Brothers. But why “Cornchip”? Simple answer is because that is their surname! Yes, our colourful little magpie beans have surnames! The surname for Magtaco and Nachobean was chosen due to tacos and nachos both being corn chip-based foods, but surnames in this world are more commonly the scientific family names of the foods they’re based on. For example, Magbean, Magbroccoli, and Beanvine’s surnames are Legume, Brassica, and Vitace, respectively.
Beanpies appear to not have legs, and their wings are obviously too small for flight, so how do they get around? The answer may not have been obvious, but they walk…with their legs! Why can’t you see their legs? They are always covered by their long feathers. If you lifted up a beanpie’s bottom feathers, you will see their little legs.

With two recent background characters in Kindness Over Rudeness, one featherless and one skinny bird, seen only in pages 2 and 10, you can now visually see a beanpie’s talons. They’re the same colour as their beaks and appear too small for holding their bodies up, but beanpies still have hollow skeletons like other birds, even without their ability of flight.
Despite their top-heavy looks, they’re perfectly balanced…mostly.
To summarise our fun facts, the silhouettes in Book 1 are the antagonists in Book 2, Magtaco’s the eldest sibling of the Cornchip Brothers, beanpies have surnames, and they also have legs hidden by their feathers. There are many more fun facts waiting to be shared, but let’s not make this blog as long as a dictionary. More fun facts will be shared through later blogs as we further explore the world of Magbean!®.
